Open Rivers version 2.0
Entering a new decade, stronger than before
Open Rivers re-launched at the end of 2019 after a short hiatus. We are excited to be back and have a lot to share. In time for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day 2020, our new website is up with updates on our work today. Originally, the launch was to be accompanied by a series of events with collaborators. We were not sure whether or not to go forth with the launch given the current state of the world, but decided to share with the hope it would connect and resonate with folks.
Open Rivers was launched in 2017 motivated by the belief that there is a way to do better across the board - for the environment, for all the species that cohabit this planet with us, for our communities, and for those in organizations aiming to do better. After many years of working across industries, traveling the world and learning what works (and what does not), the goal was to bring these experiences together to support organizations and individuals that we believe in.
Open Rivers has 5 guiding principles that have evolved over time as we continue to learn from our work and collaborators:
Diverse thinking drives innovation and creative solutions
Innovation and creativity occur in the “white water”
Science and data form the bedrock of solid decision-making
Compassion and empathy result in stronger outcomes
Economic growth and environmental sustainability go hand-in-hand
These guiding principles continue to be refined and strengthened as we partner to develop strategy and implementation plans that enable organizations to deliver their missions while living their values. These mission-driven organizations and individuals improve our lives and the world around us and we are honored to serve them.
We are grateful for our network of experts and collaborators, and will feature them through our Journal, a series of articles. Our pro bono work supports small non-profits with lofty and critical missions led by impact-focused individuals. Open Rivers believes in helping all people to reach their potential. We continue to find ways to support people through many avenues including our work to empower women in science and beyond.
