Brynne is a 2017 Open Rivers Scholar and a 2020 graduate of Unity College with a degree in Captive Wildlife Care and Education. After finishing a four-year program in three years, Brynne is looking forward to starting work as a full-time zookeeper in an AZA accredited zoo, and, following a gap year, starting graduate school in Conservation Biology.
At Unity, Brynne specifically enjoyed her Animal Training class, working with different species with a variety of behaviors. She used that knowledge when she was a seasonal keeper at Children’s Zoo, part of the Bronx Zoo, conducting daily care and monitoring of a variety of domestic and exotic species. She also interacted with the public by answering questions, and helped children build stronger connections with animals and nature.
Brynne also worked with professors at Western CT State University’s summer STEM program. The program was designed to engage middle school students in STEM and successfully introduced a 50% female group to the different areas of science. Brynne also helped organize the Herpetology Club at Unity College, as well as working as a tutor and peer mentor. She was a part of the school’s North American Wood Turtle Project, tagging and tracking multiple North American Wood Turtles in the area to monitor population and advocate for more protection.
